The Alcohol Wellness and Responsibility Education Corp. (AWARE) was created by HB 439 to provide financial resources through grants to Kentucky high schools, colleges, universities, and outside organizations to support alcohol responsibility programs. The AWARE Corp. also provides funding to high schools for alcohol-free activities during the end-of-school-year and graduation season. The fund receives money generated by one percent (1%) of the excise tax collected from the sale and distribution of malt beverages, one percent (1%) of the wholesale tax collected from distributors of malt beverages and microbreweries, and all proceeds from public auctions conducted by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
The AWARE board administers and oversees this fund.
